TOP TEN DIETS – in no particular order

  • Alli Diet - The important thing to keep in mind is that Alli does not want to promote itself as a diet pill but rather as a weight loss aid.   Its message is simple:  Do the work to lose the weight and Alli will help you along the way.

  • Jenny Craig - There are many reasons why Jenny Craig is becoming everyone’s favorite person to call, and one of the biggest reasons is because it is so simple to follow.   Jenny Craig is part of the “meals to go” diet plans out there.   The biggest rival Jenny Craig has is Nutrisystem.

  • Reality TV Diets - the Celebrity Fit Club diet, which has helped celebrities such as Tiffany and Carnie Wilson, lose weight over a 14 weeks period.   The Celebrity Fit Club diet is really the Fat Smash Diet written by Dr. Ian K. Smith.   This is not meant to be considered a “diet” but a change of lifestyle.  There are four phases with this diet and the first one is very restrictive because it is considered a detox phase where you can east all the fruits and vegetables you want and then oatmeal, beans and tea.   That is it. This detox phase is only for nine days and then the rest of the food is incorporated back in slowly.   In Phase two you can add back in lean meats, seafood, cheese, and even cereal though not the sugary kind.   In the last stage alcohol and white starches along with sweets are added back in though in very small quantities.

  • The Six Week Body Makeover - The Six Week Body Make over goes along with the same theories that the Eat Right For Your Body diet.  However the Eat Right for Your Body diet goes by your blood type only, it does not ask any questions as SWBM does.   Some people have complained of SWBM being too restrictive as far as food goes. While it gives you three options to follow for each meal and snack, some people complain that the choices are too limited.  After all there are only so many eggs one can eat.   This plan also forbids salt, sugar and for most body types milk and other dairy products are not allowed.

  • The Zone Diet - The biggest pro about the Zone diet when compared to Atkins is that it is not as restrictive as Atkins is.   While some nutritionists argue that Zone diet is poor in calories and will not be able to ever really feel satisfied, others say that the balanced meals included in the plan promotes moderation and that each meal will bring you into a state of mind where your body can perform to its peak level.

  • Meal Replacement Diet - The most popular meal replacement diet is Slim fast.   You can not seem to walk into a grocery store without seeing their products displayed everywhere.    You see slim fast shakes, slim fast bars, and even snack bars.    Other companies have jumped on this meal replacement idea also.  Kellogg’s Special K has joined the meal replacement movement with their Special K 2 Week Challenge.

  • The Low Carb Lifestyle - For almost the past decade we have been hearing the phrase “living the low carb life”.    Many people have been losing weight by joining the low carb movement by following either the Atkins Diet or the South Beach Diet.    Both of these diets have become so popular that you can not even go to a supermarket without seeing products specifically designed for them.  So how do you know which of them is right for you?    Both of these diets are the same but they are also very different.

  • The Sonoma Diet - The Sonoma diet claims to be structured after the Mediterranean Diet but geared more toward weight loss results.   In fact some people even confuse the two diets and think of them as one and the same, but there are a few key differences.

  • The Mediterranean Diet - The Mediterranean Diet has no restriction phase.   It does not result in any sort of deprivation at any point of the meal plan.     Both diets consist of recipes to follow and make.   People have said that the Sonoma diet has time consuming recipes that require hard finding, expensive ingredients while Mediterranean has affordable ingredients and offers tips on how to shorten cooking time.   Neither diet has big restrictions except for Sonoma’s wave 1 of the diet where fruit and sugar are not allowed.    After wave 1,  the Sonoma diet is very similar to the Mediterranean diet.  Though the Sonoma diet will tell you to use 9  inch plates and how to fill it for lunch and dinner,  the Mediterranean diet teaches you how to control your portions yourself without depending on plates.   The Mediterranean also wants you to follow more of a plant friendly diet with very little meat.

  • Weight Watchers - For forty five years, only one diet has earned the right to brag about its success.  What is it about Weight Watchers that has made it one of the most popular diets out there?

For starters, Weight Watchers is easy to follow if you are committed to doing   the program.  There are now two options for you to choose from.   The first one is the flex plan where instead of counting calories, counting fat, or even counting carbs, you are counting points.   Each food serving you eat is worth a point based on their fat and dietary fiber amounts.  Depending on your weight you will have a set number of points to eat each day.    You can still eat your favorite foods as long as you count the points.   The flex plan is all about portion control. What is even better is they give you an extra 35 points a week to use however you like.
